Pip Value Calculator

Calculate the monetary value of each pip movement for any forex pair. Essential for proper risk management.

What is a pip value and how is it calculated?

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest price move a currency pair can make; for most pairs that is 0.0001 and for JPY pairs 0.01. Pip value is calculated as (pip size × lot size × units per lot) ÷ exchange rate, so on a standard 1-lot EUR/USD trade each pip is worth about $10 in a USD account.

Pip Value Calculator

1 lot = 100,000 units
Contract assumptions
1.00 lot = 100,000 units · 1 pip = 0.0001 · pip value = 10 USD per lot
Contract sizes vary between brokers, especially on metals, energies and indices. Check your broker's contract specification before sizing a live trade.

What is Pip Value?

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest price move that a currency pair can make. For most pairs, a pip is 0.0001 (the fourth decimal place). For JPY pairs, a pip is 0.01 (the second decimal place).

Outside forex the unit changes with the contract. Gold moves in $0.01 pips on a 100oz lot, silver in $0.001 on 5,000oz, and crude oil in $0.01 on 1,000 barrels — which is why the same 1.00 lot is worth $10 a pip on EUR/USD, $1 on gold and $10 on WTI. Indices and crypto are quoted in points rather than pips. Select any instrument above to see the contract it assumes.

The pip value tells you how much money you make or lose per pip movement. This is crucial for:

  • Risk Management: Know exactly how much you're risking per trade
  • Position Sizing: Calculate the right lot size for your account
  • Profit Targets: Set realistic profit goals based on pip movements

Quick Formula

Pip Value = (Pip Size × Lot Size × Units per Lot) ÷ Exchange Rate
